Specialist experience in Ophthalmology
Mr Konidaris completed his higher specialist training in Ophthalmology at Aristotle University Hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2012. He was privileged to complete his PhD thesis on the use of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) in the management of retinal disorders which was awarded with an Excellence due to the novel findings. He subsequently continued his subspecialty training as a Medical Retina Fellow at the University Hospitals of Leicester.
He is the lead Consultant in the Macular Service of a busy tertiary referral centre at the University Teaching Hospital. This role involves overseeing the age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vein occlusion services provided in the Leicestershire region. His unit has recently received the Caring at its best Award from the University Hospitals of Leicester and he has been awarded with the Local Clinical Excellence Award for his contribution to the delivery of high-quality care and the improvement of NHS services. His keen interest in research has seen him accomplishing numerous published research projects in peer-reviewed journals and he has presented his clinical research at national and international conferences. Mr Konidaris has also been the Principal Investigator of several international randomised controlled trials.
